Ear reversed

Ear is the dipthong “ea”

The grave is horrible to every knight,
when the corpse quickly begins to cooland is laid in the bosom of the dark earth.Prosperity declines, happiness passes awayand covenants are broken
Ear reversed today feels like an indication of crisis averted. It also seems to point to that some of the more unpleasant things I have been dealing with are not quite finished yet, the last parts lingering on, while I figure out how to bring about a resolution.

Seeing that this rune appeared at the beginning of the week, and now it appears again reversed, tells me that it’s role and influence has no completed itself. What I find interesting is that this ending (and reversal) occurs on the day when the two benevolent planets of Astrology, Jupiter and Venus, are also changing the retrograde motion and moving forward. No longer does “prosperity decline, happiness pass away and covenants are broken” but instead they will now increase and improve, at least a little. It doesn’t necessarily solve all of your troubles, but with the direct presence of their benefic influence, things can improve again.

Things are not quite finished, says Ear reversed. They are still coming to an end, but they old gal still has a little bit left to go before everything is done. This could be a bad thing, as you hang onto things that have passed their expiration, but it could also be a good thing, as beneath all that has already crumbled away, is the essence, which may be valuable to recover from the decay that surrounds it. It may need to be re-purposed or reconfigured, but something useful may still be gained.

Things/concepts/behaviors would normally pass away are being preserved. The end is in sight, but there is still a distance to go before completion.

The divination for June 2010 indicates Ear reversed. Ear reversed shows that the influence of Ear (the slow acting force of decay and corrosion) has been temporarily halted. While contemplating this in my journal this morning, I came to two conclusions.

1) On one hand it can be seen as something that is being held onto and maintained past it’s time of usefulness or relevance. Something about you is just being held onto, when it really needs to be let go. Since it is for a whole month, it might be something that have attached a great deal of importance to, and need to release by degrees. It might also be a multitude of lesser things. An extreme image of this influence that comes to mind is “Hoarding.”
2) It could also be a stabilizing force. By holding the decaying force in abeyance, it allows for things to slowly build up, and become stronger and more durable. It is a moment of rest, and also of healing and recovery, before the process begins anew, allow the stronger to establish itself so that things don’t collapse as the weaker elements are purged away.
I am not terribly sure which it is, but there is no reason why it could not be both exercising their influence.

While the rune for the week is Ear, the rune for today is Ear reversed. The entropy and decay of Ear takes time, and it’s influence isn’t necessarily always felt strongly or clearly. So, the seeming disintegration that has just begun, is not yet evident for me, although I imagine it will come around. Although my personal experience of Mercury retrograde is different then most others, as my birth occurred during just such an event. Being a Gemini, a sign ruled by Mercury, I feel it’s changes mostly strongly, but generally for me, I tend to live in a Mercury Retrograde world all the time. Often, when this celestial event occurs, it’s like everyone steps into my day to day life. For that reason, I often manage it quite well. Not always, and not totally hundred percent, but often much better then many other people I know and have witnessed. So, for now, things have not yet started to fall apart for me yet. The center is holding, for now.

The words that came to me after pulling this rune was “I guess I’ll die another day” (yes, Madonna’s song) and that was about it. Sometimes resisting the slow gradual changes are a good things. Things need to be preserved until the end, and maintenance and upkeep are important things to hold the slow, inexorably forces of entropy and decay in abeyance. That isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes you have to walk your own path, and that may mean choosing the time and place for the end, and not having others choose it for you.

Ear reversed is the rune of slowing or stopping the processes of decay, erosion and entropy. While in some cases this might be beneficial, if something is fall apart faster then it needs to, but in other cases, it is more indicative of a resistance or holding back from making necessary changes. It might also just be the necessity to release something whose time has come, to let the structure that supported it, but also contained it to fall away, so what was within can go, and thrive and express life.
