November – Cenaz

Cenaz

Cenaz is the letter C

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The torch is known to every living man by its pale, bright flame;
it always burns where princes sit within

Cenaz is the rune for November. Within this bright rune of the Torch, is inspiration and illumination, shedding light to push back the darkness and reveal the path ahead. It is also the rune of passion, of desires that burn within, illuminating our wants and needs. Within it’s light, revelations are made, as the light pushes park the concealing darkness.

October – Ior

Ior

Ior is the dipthon “io”

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Ior is a river fish and yet it always feeds on land;
it has a fair abode encompassed by water, where it lives in happiness

Ior is the rune for October, which I find to be fitting and appropriate. In most of modern European lore (starting from the fall of Rome forward) the time following the autumnal equinox until the first part of spring, was a time when the spirits of the dead became more active. Some see it as the veil between worlds opening. In other views, it has to do with the increased darkness, allow the revenants who lay in their barrows to move about longer and more freely, then the brighter months of spring and summer.
As Ior represents being in the liminal point, standing in the boundary between things, it is a key sign for being in the boundary between life and death, and thus being able to communicate or interact with both, and yet be tied to neither. The role often required by many people from many cultures, was one who could communicate between the living and the dead, and to help the relationship between them. Sometimes it would happen in families. Other times, a trained specialist would be required who can help navigate the challenges that the living faced, especially during the darker days.

September – Ac

Ac

Ac is the vowel sound “ah”

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The oak fattens the flesh of pigs for the children of men.
Often it traverses the gannet’s bath,and the ocean proves whether the oak keeps faithin honourable fashion

Ac for September indicates that this month will be about stability, dependability, and longevity. Avoid rushing into things or acting to quickly. If someone starts pushing on you, before you are ready, perhaps their intentions are less then what they present themselves to be. Ethical questions may arise, testing your personal integrity, while at the same time, the benefits of having stayed true to the course will also make themselves known.

August – Feoh reversed

Feoh reversed

Feoh is the letter F

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Wealth is a comfort to all men;
yet must every man bestow it freely,if he wish to gain honour in the sight of the Lord

Feoh reversed is the rune cast for August, indicating problems related to finances. It might come in the form of unexpected bills or expenses that need to be paid off. It might be that the time prior was spent in frivolous living, and now your savings is empty. Or it might just be worry, possibly necessary, over finances and whether you will have enough to meet your needs and your desires, to experience not just survival, but fulfillment. It may be other resources that are being expended too quickly as well, anything that can signify that wealth that you possess.

July – Uruz

Uruz

Uruz is the letter U

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The aurochs is proud and has great horns;
it is a very savage beast and fights with its horns;a great ranger of the moors, it is a creature of mettle

Strength, power and mettle is the focus for July. It is both a time of expressing that strength, using your powers and talents, but also for building strength, physical, metaphysical strength and general life improvement.

Rune of the Month – Ear reversed

Ear reversed

Ear is the dipthong “ea”
Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The grave is horrible to every knight,
when the corpse quickly begins to cooland is laid in the bosom of the dark earth.Prosperity declines, happiness passes awayand covenants are broken

The divination for June 2010 indicates Ear reversed. Ear reversed shows that the influence of Ear (the slow acting force of decay and corrosion) has been temporarily halted. While contemplating this in my journal this morning, I came to two conclusions.

1) On one hand it can be seen as something that is being held onto and maintained past it’s time of usefulness or relevance. Something about you is just being held onto, when it really needs to be let go. Since it is for a whole month, it might be something that have attached a great deal of importance to, and need to release by degrees. It might also be a multitude of lesser things. An extreme image of this influence that comes to mind is “Hoarding.”
2) It could also be a stabilizing force. By holding the decaying force in abeyance, it allows for things to slowly build up, and become stronger and more durable. It is a moment of rest, and also of healing and recovery, before the process begins anew, allow the stronger to establish itself so that things don’t collapse as the weaker elements are purged away.
I am not terribly sure which it is, but there is no reason why it could not be both exercising their influence.

Rune of the Month – Raidho

Raidho

Raidho is the letter R

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Riding seems easy to every warrior while he is indoors
and very courageous to him who traverses the high-roadson the back of a stout horse

Raidho, the rune of riding, the road and journeys is the rune for May. Expect issues to arise dealing with travel, both physical and metaphysical. You may find barriers or obstacles being removed or created, as well as new insights, new roads opening up, and many other themes relating to journeys. The beginning of May has the possibility to focus more on the inner journey, one that my be psychological or magical in nature, with the closing of Mercury Retrograde. The inner journey may help you to realize what outer journey’s you should take when the time comes.

Part of my understanding of Raidho is that there is an element of rhythm. In many journeys, establishing a rhythm to the way you are moving helps make the journey easier, whether that be music you listen to, or a “right-left-right” going through your own head as you proceed down the road. You might even align with the greater rhythms of creation, and use that as your guide to when and where to go, how to get there, and what time to arrive. Even when it seems absent, rhythm is something that may subtly be present, from the long subtle rhythms that mark the cycles of sun and moon, to the rhythm that pounds away within your chest, created by the beating of your heart.

Rune of March – Thurisaz reversed

Thurisaz Reversed

Thurisaz is the sound ‘th’

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The thorn is exceedingly sharp,
an evil thing for any knight to touch,uncommonly severe on all who sit among them

It appears the last week of February was a preparation for the whole month of March, as we are returned to Thurisaz reversed. There is a protective quality to thurisaz reversed that is like being a small animal who seeks protection amidst the thorns and briars. Because of being the type of being you are, you can be safe inside there, as you move cautiously past all the sharp thorns and pricks, meanwhile the predators, those who are coming after you, are not able to move through them successfully and are cut and pricked, and so leave you alone, allowing you to continue going on. Yes, they can be severe on you too, but for right now, they are protecting you from harm.

Another quality that Thurisaz has is the ability to slip past or penetrate defenses, obstacles and blockages. Looking at a small thorn, it seems such a tiny harmless thing, but yet they can just slip right through even the best protection and prick you. Many times as child growing up, I have been pricked from thorns of plants in my mother’s garden, even though I was wearing heavy denim and leather gloves. I made the wrong move, or that one un-protected spot just got through and pricked me. Thurisaz is also good at finding that one un-protected spot, that weakness, that chink in the armor. In the reversed state, you can use that to your advantage. It is an opportunity to break through obstacles, but also personal barriers to reach your desires or goals.

February 2010

Isa

Isa is the vowel sound ee (a long e like seize)

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Ice is very cold and immeasurably slippery;
it glistens as clear as glass and most like to gems;it is a floor wrought by the frost, fair to look upon

Isa means Ice. That is probably the most consistent rune in the all the Futharks, as it means ice in virtually all of them. The Anglo-Saxon stanza refers to the beautiful quality of ice, although it does give a brief indication of its dangers (cold and slippery).

Esoterically, it is cold, frozen, slippery, yet also static and unchanging. Things that are frozen at very low tempatures, don’t decay or change. That is why we have modern day freezers, to help us preserver our foodstuffs longer, because as long as they are frozen, they won’t decay as quickly. With Isa, you can freeze energies, entities or whatever, stopping them from reaching you. You can also use it to freeze yourself, giving time to reflect, be still and calm. Eventually though, things will thaw and when the ice melts, it can bring a gentle renewal or a mighty flood.
In a quite literal interpretation for the month of February, I think winter will hold on a bit longer then normal. But that is just my hypothesis. Also, don’t expect a great deal of change in this month, which can be both good and bad. Everything will probably just seem to take extra effort, unless you apply some heat to get things moving along.
