Uruz

Uruz is the vowel sound “u”

The aurochs is proud and has great horns;
it is a very savage beast and fights with its horns;a great ranger of the moors, it is a creature of mettle

Uruz indicates strength, power, and achievement. It is also a rune for healing, as it gives strength and vigor to the body, mind and soul. If you have been battling with illness or disease, you might find that it is lifting today, as you regain your strength.

Strength, power and mettle is the focus for July. It is both a time of expressing that strength, using your powers and talents, but also for building strength, physical, metaphysical strength and general life improvement.

Uruz (the auroch) symbolizes strength, power, and potential. As the auroch was the wild precursor to modern cattle, it is potential, the potential that can be shaped and formed to achieve ones desires. As the auroch was strong creature, that was very fierce and dangerous, it is also power and strength, material strength and spiritual strength, which are both valued. It is a bit more masculine, compared to what can be seen as it’s companion Ac (the oak) which is a bit more feminine. It is also a rune of healing, applying that strength to rebuilding what has been damaged, and giving it the power to be stronger, better and powerful with health. In a reading, it indicates that those values are being expressed or are needed in the situation. Sometimes you need to work, and apply power and your strength to situation, in order to make it right or at least work out as best as it can.

Uruz translates to auroch, a undomesticated bovine whose ancestors are our cattle. As I believe I indicated before, their horns were greatly prized (to the point that they were imitated after they were extinct in metal, wood and bone) but while they were alive it was a great deed to successfully hunt and kill one.

Esoterically, Uruz symbolizes primal strength, the physical body but also the subtle body strength. In a reading it shows that strength is being accessed, that the potential is being shaped, While the final result may not come into being yet, the process has begun. In my case, the strength is being tapped because I am having two consecutive long days, and I am going to need the power to keep going until I can finally stop, rest and recover.

Uruz is also considered one of the main runes used for healing and health, focusing subtle energies in supporting and maintaining vigor and vitality, which helps in healing and maintaining health.

Uruz means auroch, a type of wild ox/cattle like creature that once roamed Europe. It was a pretty dangerous animal, with great strength.

Esoterically, it is the strength and primal power of the auroch that is the message of Uruz. On one hand, the strength is physical power and muscle, but it could also embody mental and spiritual strength as well. This strength also translates to the general strength of the body over all, i.e. health. It can greatly refer to ones health in a reading, but is also useful in healing and improving health. The primal power is also present in Uruz in the form of potential. Aurochs were undomesticated, but our current ox and cattle of northern Europe are descended from aurochs. It is this symbolic meaning of potential, potential that can be shaped and formed into future possibilities. Uruz is the power of shaping and forming. That is the second reason also while it figures into healing magic, but also is useful and just about any other kind of magic as well, especially when engaging in a new venture or working a specific direction or goal with the support of magic
