it looks well on a horse and is a reliable equipment for a journey

Yr reversed indicates a lack of skill or ability, and that events, people and situations will be teaching you about the skills you lack. I find it also is indicative of the hands, and that specially attention should be paid attention to the hands during this time, especially if you work with your hands a lot.

Jera, Year or Summer, is the rune of time, patience, the reaping and sowing of ones labors. It is a perfect sign for this week with the Winter Solstice on December 21 along with a lunar eclipse combining with the changing season. Forces are going out, new forces are coming in. In Wiccan lore, this is the time when the Child of Light returns, the reborn Sun, after the longest night. With his birth the days will start to become longer. Even though we are still operating in the dark time and in Northern Europe folk lore, it was still the dark season when the dead are still close whether for good or evil. But the seasons turn, the wheel turns, and we move forward with our lives.

The lunar eclipse is a fun phenomenon, although in most European lore, whether from Northern Europe or Mediterranean traditions, the eclipses were ill omens, although in astrology, the eclipse around the Northern Node of the Moon, otherwise known as the head of the Dragon, was considered fortunate. However, this lunar eclipse is with the southern node, or the dragon’s tail, and is considered a malefic point. Although, when it comes to the malefic virtues of astrology, they are often evil with good (ie bad results to those things people desire in life) and good with evil (they also diminish the bad things as well, making them not so bad). At the Strategic Sorcery blog, Jason Miller shares that in Tibetan view, eclipses are a time when the actions who take become more powerful, a 1000 times for lunar eclipses, and 10000 times for solar. So, keep in mind what you do while the eclipse happens, even if you cannot see it (such as me, as my skies are filled with rain clouds).

There is no letter equivalent for Gar

There is no rune poem for Gar. It is a Northumbrian rune.

Gar to me is the door this week, the open, or opening portal. Whether to step through and see what is on the other side, or to wait, and allow entrance on the other side is the question. Action or rest, coming or going, arrival and departure, these are the juxtapositions surrounding this cosmic door that lies at the center, the fulcrum and axis for everything around it.

Aethel reversed indicates a flight from the home and personal estate. It might be an indicator of discord among the inhabitants, but it is also a sign that perhaps one just needs to get out and do things, and will not have an opportunity to rest, and enjoy the things of the home in prosperity. You might also find yourself isolated in your own home. Restrictions and limitations keep you there, against your will, and the joys of family and friends are not able to enter in, for other reasons.

Inguz is the suffix –ing

Inguz is the is the fruitful seed, ripe with potential. Recently, while contemplating Inguz, it came to me that it represents male energy, in that sense that it is activating and active, but also it’s form can also hold within it great potential, power that can be tapped, that is often not apparent by the surface. A tiny grain of pollen seems like a miniscule thing, but from it’s cycle, comes forth all manner of fruit, grain and infant plants. So it is with the sperm cell, which is tiny, but yet within it is the potential energy of new life. Inguz signifies both that male power, but also that energy, both in its potential, but also in its activating and active expression. This week is about that energy in all of its forms, and how it interacts with the runes that speak for the days ensuing

Ear signifies that this week is about endings and death. Things have reached their completion, and will not progress any further beyond that. My first thought reached out to the various spiritual beings who govern death, dying and the realms of the dead, from various pagan Gods, to the very popular folk saint, Santa Muerte (Saint Death). A favorite quote that often comes to mind when contemplating Ear and it’s effects, especially as it applies to people who engage in a magico-spiritual practice comes from The Invisibles by Grant Morrison. A transgendered brazilio-mexican sorceress who goes by the name epithet Lord Fanny, says to the foe “ I am a sorcerer, and death is my ally, not my enemy.” I have often contemplated that phrase, and it’s implications and an answer came to me about what that means. Death is part of the process of change. Something new cannot be created, unless something old passes away, and is destroyed. The caterpillar no longer exists when it becomes a butterfly. The tree is gone when it becomes the chair. The marble slab becomes the valued statue. In each of those things, part of the process of becoming, something about them experienced death, and they can never go back to being what they were before.

Inguz is the rune of potential and contained power, but also the catalyst that sets forces and events in motion. In this sense it embodies many things, such as sacrifice (the offerings that give sustenance to spiritual beings, so they can work for you, or perhaps fulfill your request) to a symbol for male aspect of nature, creation and divinity, the inseminating force that helps life to renew itself, in seeds that wait until the right moment to spring forth. With that in mind, that is the influence operating for this week. Recognize what is needed to achieve what one desires, or even to recognize what is really desired. To find the potential and power, and gather it up, and also to catalyze other forces, and supplicate the Powers that be, in asking for their assistance.

Hagalaz signfies hail, the storm, and the forces of destruction. It indicates that this week will be filled with changes, not all pleasant, and the only response one can do is to move with them and withstand them.

Tiewaz for the rune of the week indicates a week where wisdom, guidance, integrity judgement and discernment play key roles. Let cooler mind prevail, and put aside anxiety and fear, embracing what you know and sense about the situations that arise, and knowing when to take action, and when to follow through.

Things are not quite finished, says Ear reversed. They are still coming to an end, but they old gal still has a little bit left to go before everything is done. This could be a bad thing, as you hang onto things that have passed their expiration, but it could also be a good thing, as beneath all that has already crumbled away, is the essence, which may be valuable to recover from the decay that surrounds it. It may need to be re-purposed or reconfigured, but something useful may still be gained.
