Os reversed

Os is the vowel “o”

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The mouth is the source of all language,
a pillar of wisdom and a comfort to wise men,a blessing and a joy to every knight
Os reversed indicates a break down in communication. Expect messages to come late, or garbled. You might find your own skills are interrupted, emails mistyped and lost, and your text messages just can’t seem to get through in a timely manner

Os reversed significes challenges with communication, speech and the voice. Being that at this time, the planet Mercury is going in retrograde motion, it seems entirely appropriate that this sign would appear. By the nature of it’s reversed position, Os also gives what I perceive and always found to be the answer to these communication difficulties. Speaking inward, as expressed through reflection, meditation and contemplation, in a sense, taking time to consider what you are going to say, and making sure that what you say is clear, and after saying it, checking in that the communication is clear. All these happen best, when silence is present, and so the need to stop communicating outwardly for a moment, and process what the really needs to be said on the inside.
Of course, a key sign of the lack of these skills is the argument, such as my neighbors are having right now, screaming and shouting and using strong language, which only shows that not only is no one listening to the others, but they are also not listening themselves. Disagreements happen, of course, but to resort to verbal violence shows that communication is being ineffective for all parties involved.

Os reversed is the closed mouth. Instead of speaking, there is silence, voices are muted, and messages are missed. In contemplating this, I had the thought of how this could be a good and a bad thing. Silence gives us opportunities to think, reflect and contemplate, especially on the internal forces that churn and chatter away within all of us. In that silence, it is possible for wisdom and personal knowledge to grow, until the time to speak has returned.

As a bad thing, Os reversed can show all the worst of poor communication, messages missed or poorly expressed, misinterpretations of communication, and perhaps even arguments, and sometimes just out right being silenced, having your voice stopped by outside influences.

There is the possibility of both of these expressions today, but I sense the choice remains with each person of how to experience it, and you just might experience both.

Os (mouth) is the rune of language, communication, eloquence, poetry, song and incantation. I also consider it to be the rune of Odhinn, especially in his role as Galdrfadr (Father of Spells). When it appears reversed, expect troubles with communication, language and other such pursuits. It is rather similar in meaning to that dread thrice annual event that people all seem to fear, Mercury Retrograde. At least, in this case, it is only for day, and it will soon pass. It might also even be easily resolved with aid of other magic that has been done in advance.

Today I cast the Os reversed. Os is the translated as “mouth” as that thing which words come out from people. Esoterically, Os is the power of speech and song, everything having to do with voice. It is a rune of wisdom, but also of eloquence. When it is reversed, it shows problems with that area. Communication is misread, words are misheard, phone calls are missed. Try to make do as best as you can, and if you can, think about what you say before you say it, and re-read anything written before you publish it.

Os Reversed

Os is the vowel O (like show)

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge,com)

The mouth is the source of all language,
a pillar of wisdom and a comfort to wise men,a blessing and a joy to every knight.

Os translates to the word Mouth. You know, that thing you speak with and put food into and stuff.

Esoterically it is a symbol of communication, and in this case, difficulties with communication. Messages are garbled, expression is vague, maybe you will or have lost your voice or have a sore throat. One could also see this as affecting communications technology as well, but it could also point to challenges communicating with the other worlds as well, in both directions. Perhaps the words are not coming to you, or you aren’t feeling the inspired speech flow because there is temporary spiritual blockage

I also see it as the rune of Odhinn. Of course, this is a kind of a big thing to me, because last week I finished an extended meditation and working with the runes, one that took me more then half of a year (about 40 weeks) and so during that time I was making simple offerings to Odhinn, for aid and for gratitude. I thought I was done. Apparently not. So I went and bought more beer for All-father. I know I will come back again, asking for more, but for the time being, I need to focus on something else.
