October 10 – 16, 2010 – Berkana reversed

Berkana reversed

Berkana is the letter B

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

The birch bears no fruit; yet without seed it brings forth suckers,
for it is generated from its leaves. Splendid are its branches and gloriously adornedits lofty crown which reaches to the skies.

Berkana reversed signfies a lack or great slowing down of growth, nurturing influence and feminine presence. Perhaps a recent injury is being slow to heal and recover. You might find that feminine might be less present in your life, or their influence is not as pronounced as normal. You might find that instead of being nurtured, you need to reach out and nurture people instead. This might be difficult for you, but it’s time has come to return the favors given to you.

October 3 – 9, 2010 – Shtan

Shtan

Shtan is the “sh” sound.

There is no rune poem for Shtan. It is a Northumbrian Rune.

Shtan means stone, a symbol of permanence, durability, foundation, and timelessness. As a rune for the week, Shtan embodies those qualities, and indicates that they are at present and active when it appears in a reading. This week might be a time to work on ones foundational elements, and see if things are as permanent and durable as you believe (or desire). It might also be dealing with things that are resistant to change, and having to struggle through, changing yourself in order to respond to the situation, or just putting up with it.

September 26 – October 2, 2010 – Cweorth

Cweorth

Cweorth is the letter “q’

There is no poem for Cweorth. It is a Northumbrian Rune.

The fire-twirl, the sacred flame that takes offerings, and purifies, and the cosmic fire that burns, endlessly, giving heat, warmth and light, but also consuming, and destroying. Sitting here, during record highs for the city of Los Angeles, and the area around it, it fills like standing before the entrance to such a place, the gateway to Muspell, the virtue of fire, that burns, heats, and creates light, without any other substance needed, and devoid of anything but fire.

September 19 – 26, 2010 – Aethel

Aethel

Aethel is the dipthong “ae”

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

An estate is very dear to every man,
if he can enjoy there in his housewhatever is right and proper in constant prosperity

Aethel is the rune for this week, indicating a focus on home, estate, family, ancestors, inheritance, and the wealth and good fortune that surrounds those things. Maybe your home will seem particularly inviting, or perhaps after a great deal of travel and effort, it is time to return, rest and enjoy those comforts of familial space and connection. As the days turn shorter, we come now into Autumn, which is the beginning of many holidays and events where family and friends gather together, in celebration of some event, or another.

August 1 – 7, 2010 – Jera

Jera

Jera is the letter J

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Summer is a joy to men, when God, the holy King of Heaven,
suffers the earth to bring forth shining fruitsfor rich and poor alike

Jera, the rune of Summer, Harvest and the year, is the rune for this first week of August. A very propitious sign, as Jera equals well the with wiccan festival celebrated by many on the first, and over this week, the First Harvest known as Lammas. Fruits and grains are coming in now, some to be enjoyed, others to be processed so they can be stored away for the rest of the year. The day is starting to get shorter as we have moved away from the peak of summer. For some, the first chill of autumn may start to arrive in the evening, while others experience great heat waves, often called the “Dog Days of Summer” so named for the rising of the constellation Canis Major and its’ major star, Sirius.

July 4 – July 10, 2010 – Tiewaz reversed

Tiewaz reversed

Tiewaz is the letter T

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (from ragweedforge.com)

Tiewaz is a guiding star; well does it keep faith with princes;
it is ever on its course over the mists of night and never fails.

The rune for this week is Tiewaz, described in this poem as the Pole Star, but whose name is also a variant of Tyr, a god of sacrifice, but also judgement, wisdom, honor, and war. Tiewaz reversed indicates that subtle influences of this week are opportunities for us to grow in those qualities. Hard decisions, questions of ethics and integrity, and seeking for clarity will be a common foundation among events of the week.
